Voice Major Wins First Place in Regional NATS Auditions
Josh Coleman, a student of Dr. Alissa Deeter, won first place in the Second-Year Studio Men category at the Student Auditions hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Region of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). James Matens, a student of Dr. Brian Arreola, placed second. Tiffanie Briggs tied for fourth place in the Hall Johnson Spiritual category, while James Thomas tied for fifth place in the First-Year Musical Theater Men category. Both are students of Dr. Carl DuPont. Following a video preliminary round for the National Student Auditions, Joshua Coleman and Tiffanie Briggs were both selected to advance to the live semifinal round of the NATS competition, which will be held on June 22, during the NATS 55th National Conference at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. NATS is the largest professional association of teachers of singing in the world, with nearly 7,000 members in the United States, Canada, and nearly 30 other countries. The Mid-Atlantic Region encompasses Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
