Theatre Faculty Create Work for Children’s Theatre
Theatre faculty CarlosAlexis Cruz and Bruce Auerbach have work on Children’s Theatre of Charlotte (CTC) stages this winter.
Commedia Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a retelling of the beloved fairy tale in the commedia dell’arte tradition directed by Professor Cruz, runs January 14-29 as part of CTC “WonderFest.” Junie B. Jones, with lighting design by Professor Auerbach, runs February 3-19.
Professor Cruz holds an MFA in Physical Theatre from the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre, where he studied a range of movement techniques including commedia dell’arte, Laban, Lecoq-based theatre dynamics, Alexander Technique, as well as an extensive voice training in the Linklater voice method. In November 2015, he directed The Commedia Princess and the Pea at CTC.
Since 1982 Professor Auerbach has created stage designs for more than two hundred regional theatre and university productions. Most recently, he designed the lighting for the University of South Carolina production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which ran in September 2016. He served as co-editor of the book Practical Projects for Teaching Lighting Design: A Compendium v2, published by the U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology in March 2016.
