Music Faculty to Present at Conferences
Faculty in the Department of Music will be presenting in multiple upcoming conferences.
Dr. Jonathan Govias, director of orchestras, will be a featured speaker and conference advisor for the “Reframing El Sistema” conference that will be held April 8 and 9 at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. The conference is a forum for practice and research in the area of social impact through music.
Associate Professor of Music Education Fred Spano’s paper “LGBTQ Individuals’ Lived experiences of High School Music Participation” has been accepted for inclusion in the LGBTQ Studies & Music Education III conference that will be held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign May 18-21. The LGBTQ Studies & Music Education III conference’s purpose is to encourage a conversation about LGBT topics within music education.
Assistant Professor of Clarinet Jessica Lindsey was selected from more than 270 applicants to perform at the International Clarinet Association “ClarinetFest” in August in Lawrence, Kansas. This year’s “ClarinetFest” centers around five prominent clarinetists that set the foundation for the clarinet repertoire that is used today: Anton Stadler, Heinrich Baermann, Johann Hermstedt, Richard Muehlfeld, and Benny Goodman.
