Architecture, B.A.
The Bachelor of Arts in Architecture (B.A. in Arch.) is a 4-Year, Pre-Professional Degree (128 credit hours) that serves as a foundation for a professional accredited degree at the graduate level. The creation of architecture is inherently complex, requiring design vision and competence, effective visual communication and literacy, technological knowledge, environmental responsibility, sophisticated problem-solving skills, creative leadership, and cultural, historical and theoretical perspective. Architects understand the value of building an intellectual foundation that embraces the widest possible range of knowledge and ideas.
Exceptional undergraduate students at UNC Charlotte may also apply to the Early Entry Program to begin work toward a graduate degree before completion of the baccalaureate degree.

Architectural History and Criticism, Minor
The SoA also offers a Minor in Architectural History and Criticism, which offers a foundational understanding of the history and interpretation of architecture as well as the cultural, economic, political, material, geographic, and other factors that have shaped the built enviornment across time. The program requires a combination of broad survey courses, seminars on specialized topics, and a course in methodologies. This Minor focuses on interpretive lenses, research methods, and writing strategies for the historical analysis and criticism of architecture. Work in this minor includes exploring how these activities inform and relate to contemporary architectural practice as well as how related disciplines in the social sciences and humanities inform an understanding of the built environment.
The Minor is open to students of any major and requires completion of 18 credit hours of coursework. Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in all courses counted toward the Minor. Students may share up to 9 credit hours between their Minor and Major.
