Grymes Named Scholarship and Research Editor of College Music Society Journal
Dr. James Grymes, professor of musicology, has been named the Scholarship and Research Editor for the College Music Symposium: Journal of the College Music Society, effective immediately.
The College Music Society (CMS) is one of North America’s leading professional organizations for college and university music faculty, serving musicians and scholars interested in all disciplines of music. First published in 1961, the College Music Symposium is a peer-reviewed international journal that twice annually publishes research, forums, and reviews. As Scholarship and Research Editor, Grymes will work with an editorial board to oversee the selection and publication of three to four scholarly articles for each semiannual issue of the Symposium, beginning with the Winter/Spring 2022 issue (62.1).
Dr. Grymes is an internationally recognized scholar and the author of Violins of Hope: Instruments of Hope and Liberation in Mankind’s Darkest Hour (HarperCollins, 2014), which won a National Jewish Book Award and has been translated into German and Japanese. His articles have appeared in scholarly journals such as Acta Musicologica, Hungarian Quarterly, Music Library Association Notes, and Studia Musicologica, and he has presented papers on a wide variety of topics at regional, national, and international conferences hosted by organizations such as the American Musical Instrument Society, American Musicological Society, American String Teachers Association, College Music Society, College Orchestra Directors Association, Institute for Musicology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and Society for Ethnomusicology.
