Acting Professor Publishes Essay in Theatre Symposium Series
Assistant Professor of Acting Kaja Dunn has published an essay in Volume 27 of the Theatre Symposium Series, issued by The University of Alabama Press. The book, edited by Sarah McCarroll, explores bodies and embodiment in theatre. Dunn’s essay is entitled, “Hidden Damage: When Uninformed Casting and Actor Training Disregard the Effect of Character Embodiment on Students of Color.”
“Kaja Amado Dunn’s essay on the ways in which careless selection of working texts can inflict embodied harm on students of color issues an imperative call for careful and intentional classroom practice in theatre training programs,” write the publishers.
Dunn’s research into Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion issues in theatre addresses the decolonization of theatre in pedagogy and in the profession. Learn more about her research and teaching in this video.
